Everyone wants to be an online author (or blogger) today. Some write for money others write for hobby. But each and every word we write, is expected to be in a certain pattern so that applications like search engines can understand what we have written. Unfortunately this has given origin to a new kind of practice called SEO techniques.
I have listed most common mistakes which online authors make while writing articles:
1. Writing articles for Search Engines and not necessarily for humans:
People do not care what they write, most of them want people to click on advertisements and do not focus on making their own content interesting. They follow the SEO techniques (like keyword density) so much that the human interest in that article goes down substantially. We all need to understand that articles should be written for humans and not search engines. Even search engines are getting smarter these days, they are increasingly able to differentiate between good and bad articles. So do not over use SEO techniques in your articles.
2. Using complex English Vocabulary:
Some people like to use very hard to understand English words, thinking that it will leave a great impression on the reader. Unfortunately, this will not help because your reader will lose interest and go elsewhere. Some people like to use SMS/Chat style language (ex: ‘LOL’, ‘ur’, etc), never do that. Not everyone understands these terms, if you want to have a greater readership of your articles then use simple plain English.
3. Bad Presentation:
So many authors who have excellent capability of writing articles do not work making their articles presentable. You need to use bullet points, headings, points and short paragraphs to make an article interesting. Reason – No one has time. Most people will not read your full article, instead they will simply browse the headings and only read those items in detail that interests them. A blend of good content and good presentation is important.
4. Not sticking to the core subject:
When you write an article, always make sure that your entire body of the article revolves around that topic. It is OK to divert a little bit, but only to support your core subject. Some people start their article with a topic and end with something totally different. This obviously leaves your readers confused and perplexed. Before you start writing, give yourself a few minutes to think about the layout of an article.
5. Spelling mistakes:
Always use a spelling check before you move ahead and make your article live. Additionally ensure that there are no grammatical errors. One great way to avoid this is to take a coffee-break and then come back to read your article.
6. Write when you feel like writing:
Never-ever force yourself into writing. Not only you will write sub-standard content but you will spend awfully long time to write an article. We are not machines, humans always need a proper mindset to do things correctly.
